Subject, keyword and author searching allow you to create effective searches.
To search more efficiently, combine terms in a logical way and refine search results, use the Boolean operators AND OR and NOT.
AND is used to combine different concepts. Use AND between keywords to return search results that must contain all the keywords. It narrows your search. The search result will contain a smaller and a more relevant set.
Databases feature an advanced search page that guide you to enter multiple keywords and join them with AND.
OR is used to find synonyms 'like' terms. Use OR between synonyms for a keyword to return search results that contain any
of the keywords. It broadens your search.
The search result will contain a larger set that includes any of the keywords.

Use NOT to exclude unrelated topics from your search. The search result will contain one keyword but not the other. It narrows your search.
