Looking for a specific article?
There are several options for finding a specific article in the Library Search. For example, to find the article:
Wiens, J., & Shenoy, E. (2018). Machine Learning for Healthcare: On the Verge of a Major Shift in Healthcare Epidemiology. Clinical Infectious Diseases, 66(1), 149-153. https://doi.org/10.1093/cid/cix731.
1. Search with the full citation
Paste the whole article citation into the search box.
Tip: If the article doesn't appear in the first couple of search results try removing any punctuation as well as volume, issue and date information and just keep the article title and author as search terms.
2. Search by article title
Enter just the title of the article into the search box:
machine learning for healthcare on the verge of a major shift in healthcare epidemiology
Tip: Use quotation marks to search for the exact title, e.g. "machine learning for healthcare on the verge of a major shift in healthcare epidemiology"
3. Search by article author and title
Enter the author and title of the article into the search box
wiens machine learning for healthcare on the verge of a major shift in healthcare epidemiology
Search by DOI
Enter the DOI into the search box:
10.1093/cid/cix731 (do not include https://doi.org/)
4. Use Advanced search
Use both of the following fields:
- Title or Publication Title: machine learning for healthcare on the verge of a major shift in healthcare epidemiology
- Author: wiens
Find peer-reviewed articles on a topic
If you are looking for peer-reviewed articles on a topic - try the following steps in the Library Search:
- enter your keywords into the search box
- select the Articles filter (in the left side menu) - this will limit results to articles from journals, trade publications and magazines
- next select the Online and peer reviewed filter - this will restrict your search to scholarly peer-reviewed journal articles.
Tip: don't forget to lock your filters if you want to keep searching just for peer-reviewed articles.
Find related readings
Found a useful book or article in the Library Search? Check if there are any related readings available - these are articles or books on a similar topic. Once you have found a useful book or article in the search results, simply click on the title (a new window will open i.e. the "full" record) then look for the related items list on the right side of the screen.
There is not a related reading for everything, but many articles will display related readings.
Found the perfect article? Follow the citation trail
Found a great article in the Library Search? Look for the Cited by section (look below the View online section) to find:
- links to other articles that cite your perfect article - these articles will be more recent
- links to articles in the reference list of your perfect article - these articles will be a little older.
You can also click on the "View citations in Scopus" link - this will take you directly to the Scopus platform and a list of articles that cite your perfect article will be listed. From within Scopus you can click on the "QUT Fulltext Finder" links to check if fulltext is available. The Scopus link will provide a more comprehensive list of citations.
There is not always a Cited by section for everything, but peer-reviewed articles often will provide citation links.
