Information literacy for Learners

The information literacy skills learners develop through QUT studies can assist them to navigate a rapidly changing information landscape and increase employability. Curricula should enable learners to transfer information skills from one context to another and empower them to learn how to learn. The development of information literacy knowledge and skills is critical to the use and creation of knowledge.

Objectives

Learners, either independently or in collaboration with QUT Library and educators, seek to:

  • engage with information literacy skills development within discipline specific contexts and curriculum
  • understand Information literacy as a core skill for personal and professional development and lifelong learning
  • demonstrate responsible use and creation of information in public and private lives
  • understand the link between critical thinking and manufacture of information.

Actions for Learners

  • Recognise and prioritise their information needs.
  • Have knowledge of, and understand, information principles and information retrieval processes.
  • Access and use a wide range of information resources and technologies effectively and responsibly.
  • Apply information seeking and usage principles to a broad range of problem-based situations and reduce complex information problems to manageable forms.
  • Consider diverse cultural perspectives within the information environment.
