The Collection

Giovanna Volpe with her mother.

Jason Connery with Giovanna's husband, Ian.

When actor and writer Diane Cilento died in October 2011, her children Giovanna Volpe and Jason Connery pondered how to continue her legacy - her love for performance and for mentoring young artists.

Only a year before her death, Diane had become the first Artist in Residence for QUT's Creative Industries Faculty. Diane found the experience invigorating.

Diane's children remembered this connection to QUT when they came to distribute her estate. It included hundreds of books, memorabilia, posters, furniture and original scripts inherited from her husband playwright Anthony Shaffer.

Giovanna and Jason generously donated the material to QUT Library, Kelvin Grove campus, where some of it is on display in the building.

Many of the books have been added to the QUT Library for the use of students and researchers.

The original scripts by Diane Cilento and Anthony Shaffer have been digitised and made available through QUT Digital Collections for the benefit of scholars everywhere. It is hoped that this collection will inform and inspire a new generation of artists.

This is Diane Cilento's Gift.
