QUT Library provides a range of services to the public. Many of these services are freely available. Some services and resources are only available from on campus, while others are accessible from home.

Where are the QUT branch libraries?
QUT Library has five branches: Caboolture, Carseldine, Gardens Point in Brisbane city, the Law library at Gardens Point and Kelvin Grove. For opening hours, locations and more information, see Branches and hours.
Please note, at present, access to databases is not available at Caboolture Library.
What services can I use when I visit the Library?
Services and facilities available to members of the public visiting QUT Library branches include:
- Library catalogue - to find books, jornals, newspapers, DVDs, CDs, videos held by the Library
- Databases for use within the Library - to find journal articles, newspaper articls, conference papers
- Subject guides - help in finding information on a subject
- Pilot - an online tutorial in how to search effectively
- Library Help Desk
- Photocopying services (fees apply).
What services can't I use in the Library?
QUT Library cannot provide access to the wider internet and so you will not be able to log into your personal email account or link to sites outside the Library's network.
Unfortunately, because of the networked printing service offered to students, you can not print from the public access terminals. However, the catalogue and some databases have a function whereby you can email search results to your personal email address.
Some services are restricted to QUT staff and students and you will asked for a QUT account name and password. Should you link to a QUT Secure login page, just click the back button of your browser to continue.
Can I borrow from the Library?
You can use the collection within the library but must be a member to borrow. Membership information.
When you become a library member, you will be able to use the library catalogue My Library Profile option on campus and off, to look at your borrowing record. You need to set up a PIN to use this function.
What can I access online from home?
The QUT Library website has a number of resources which are accessible to all internet users, including:.
- QUT Library Catalogue- for finding items in the library collection
- Online subject guides- lists of resources available at QUT Library.
- Pilot - an online tutorial about how to find information and search databases and other electrinic sources.
- Public access databases- vast resources of quality information, freely available on the web. (More databases are available from within the Library)
Searching the Library Catalogue
To search the QUT Library collection from home or when on campus, connect to the Library catalogue. When on campus, you will need to search from a public access terminal.
You can either type keywords into the search box, or use the tabs to search for a specific author, title, or journal.
Below is an example of a record within the catalogue describing a book. The item here is held at Kelvin Grove Library and is the 80th item at the subject number 306.0973. There are two copies- one is on loan; the other is on the shelf. For help finding items in the library, see Find an item on the shelf

Searching databases for public use
The public are able to access selected databases when visiting QUT Library. To gain access, you will need to search from a public access terminal. For the full listing of databases, see databases for use within the Library. These databases are marked with the "open door" symbol
. To connect to the database, click on the name of the database (written in blue). Below is an example of a database from the list.
The databases are produced by a range of companies from outside QUT. Due to this, their use may differ from one database to another. From the list pictured above, you can read more about each database by clicking "more details" or "help with this database". For general help information, see Database help.
While you are not able to print or save articles from the these terminals, some databases have a function whereby you can send search results from the database to your email address.

You may like to browse our online help, Need help? or try visiting or phoning the Library Help Desk when on campus. Please note certain help services, such as Ask a Librarian email, chat and web conversation, are restricted to QUT staff and students.
Public access terminals
| The public access terminals you must use when visiting a QUT Library are available in all branch libraries (except Caboolture). They are clearly marked with a grey and green monitor frame as in the photograph below.
