Other borrowing services provided by the library include:

Requesting an item on loan

If an item you wish to use is already on loan, you can place a hold on it and it will be recalled and set aside for you to collect. Follow the Placing a hold instructions to request the item you want.

Placing an intercampus or Library Store request

QUT staff and students can have items from another branch library or the Library Store delivered for collection at the library of your choice. Follow the Placing a hold instructions to request the item you want.

Requesting journal articles

QUT staff and students can request copies of articles from journals held at other branch libraries. Where publishers' licences allow, the copies are provided as a PDF file. Complete and submit the Intercampus copy request form to request your copy.

When the copy is ready, usually within two days, you will receive an email which will provide you with a link to the document stored on a secure web server. You will have to log in using your QUT access account details to open the document.

Your document will be removed automatically after it has been opened 5 times or 14 days after the email notification was sent, whichever comes first.

If a document can't be delivered electronically, a photocopy will be posted via internal mail to QUT staff and postgraduate students. Other students will receive an email notifying them to collect the copy from their branch Learning and Research Desk.

Booking audiovisual items

Audiovisual items required for teaching purposes can be booked via your branch Learning and Research Desk.

To be sure that your booking is available on the date that it is required, it is advisable to make your booking at least eight days before the required viewing date. You will be notified by email or phone if the video is not available by the booking date.

Placing a hold

"Holds" is the term used to include requesting items on loan, material at another campus library or the Library Store. By placing a hold you are asking that a copy of an item be reserved for you to borrow. Placing a hold is only available for QUT staff and enrolled students.

  1. Log into your library record via My Library Profile.
  2. Search for the item you wish to request.
  3. Check there is not a copy in the library at your branch library.
  4. Click the request button at the top of the screen.
  5. In the Deliver to: box, select your desired pickup location from the drop down menu. Only external students can select the "External student ONLY, via Post" option.
  6. Mark the copy you wish to request.
  7. Then click the requestselected button.

Collecting a hold

You will be emailed when it is ready to collect. You can pick it up from the Course Reserve/Holds area or the Learning and Research Desk at the branch library you nominated as the pick up address.

How long does it take?

Items showing as AVAILABLE at another campus library will usually be available for collection within two days. Items on loan take longer because the item has to be recalled and returned by the current client. You can check the progress of your hold request by logging into My Library Profile.

When you can't place a hold

  • Caboolture Library items are only available for Caboolture students and academic staff, and cannot be requested by students from other campuses.
  • Items showing as AVAILABLE will not be delivered to the holds shelf of that same branch library.
  • Items showing as AVAILABLE will not be transferred between city campus branches, Gardens Point (V block) and Law Library (C block).

Why was my hold cancelled?

QUT Library may cancel your request for hold if:

  • It is for a high use item in high demand. Typically this is done so the item can be placed on short-term loan or in the course reserve collection.
  • You have placed a hold on more than one copy of the same item.

If your hold is cancelled you will be sent email notification.

How do I cancel a hold request?

  1. Log in to My Library Profile
  2. Click on the requests (holds) link under "Current Details" right-hand side of screen
  3. Click in the check box beside the item you no longer require.
  4. Click on either the "Cancel selected items" or the "Cancel all" button as shown below.
