Laptop computer borrowing conditions
- laptops can borrowed from
- the Learning and Research Desk at the Law and Caboolture branch Libraries; and
- Audiovisual Services, Room D213, D Block, Kelvin Grove, and
- Audiovisual Services, Room V138, V Block, Gardens Point.
- loan period is for a maximum of four hours
- laptops are due back one hour before the Library closes and loan periods will be reduced to ensure laptops are returned by that time
- laptops can be used in or out of the library
- laptops cannot be reserved
Responsibilities and replacement costs
- You will have to sign a Laptop Loan Agreement each time you borrow a laptop.
- Full replacement cost will be charged for loss or theft of a laptop while in your care. Use of the security cable does not exempt you from this responsibility.
- Full replacement or repair costs will be charged for repair or replacement of any damaged components e.g. the mouse.
- Use of the laptop is governed by QUT’s policy on the Acceptable use of information technology resources and QUT Library Borrowing Conditions.
Renewals and overdue penalties
- There are no renewals allowed on laptop loans.
- Overdue loans will attract 10 points an hour or part thereof.
- The first and final overdue notice is sent when the item is four hours overdue.
Using the laptop
Software
Software provided is the same as the QUT standard operating environment available in the student computing labs, which includes:
- Windows XP Operating system
- Microsoft Office 2003
- Internet Explorer
- Mozilla
- Adobe Acrobat Reader, v.7
- EndNote
- Quicktime
- Messenger
- Nero CD burning software
Saving documents
You will need to save your files to disk or email files to yourself. Any files saved to the laptop’s hard drive will be deleted every time the laptop is rebooted.
