"Holds" is the term used to include requesting items on loan or material at another campus library. By placing a request for hold you are asking that a copy of an item be reserved for you to borrow. Requests for hold are only available to QUT staff and enrolled students.
Placing a hold
- Log into your library record via My Library Profile
- Search for the item you wish to request.
- Check there is not a copy in the library at your branch library.
- Click the
button at the top of the screen. - In the Deliver to: box, select your desired pickup location from the drop down menu. Only External students can select the "External studentONLY, via Post" option.
- Mark the copy you wish to request.
- Then click the
button.
Collecting a hold
You will be emailed when it is ready to collect. You can pick it up from the Course Reserve Collection area or the Library Help Desk at the branch library you nominated as the pick up address.
How long does it take?
Items showing as IN LIBRARY at another campus library will usually be available for collection within three (3) days. Items on loan take longer because the item has to be recalled and returned by the current client. You can check the progress of your hold request by logging into My Library Profile.
When you can't place a hold
Caboolture Library items are available for Caboolture students and academic staff only, and cannot be requested by students from other campuses.
You can not place a hold on DVDs, films, videos and computer software. These need to be booked via your branch library loans / help desk.
Please note:
- Items showing as IN LIBRARY will not be delivered to the holds shelf of that same branch library.
- Items showing as IN LIBRARY will not be transferred between city campus branches, Gardens Point (V block) and Law Library (C block).
Why was my hold cancelled?
Requests for holds on material listed above and on items that only become available, after your nominated last useful date, will be cancelled. You will be emailed if a hold request is cancelled.
QUT Library may cancel your request for hold if it is for a high use item in high demand. Typically this is done so the item can be placed on short-term loan or in the course reserve collection. If this is the case you will be sent email notification that your request for hold was unsuccessful.
How do I cancel a hold request?
- Login to My Library Profile
- Click on the requests (holds) link under Current Details right-hand side of screen
- Click in the check box beside the item you no longer require.
- Click on either the "Cancel selected items" or the "Cancel all" button as shown below.
