These can be effectively browsed in the catalogue by subject using Library of Congress Subject Headings or alternatively browse the shelves using some of the Dewey Decimal call numbers listed below.
Library of congress subject headings (LCSH)
For precision information retrieval, search the library catalogue using the controlled vocabulary Library of Congress Subject Headings LCSH. Here are a few examples of useful subject searches:
- Cartography
- Geodesy
- Geographic Information Systems
- Global Positioning System
- Remote Sensing
- Spatial Analysis Statistics
- Surveying
Dewey decimal call numbers
These call numbers apply to periodicals which can be found on level 4 and books which can be found can be found on levels 5 and 6 of the Gardens Point Collection.
Many spatial science and surveying books are located in the 526 range and these are located on level 5 of the Gardens Point Collection.
Books on GIS (Geographic Information Systems) can be found in the 910.285 range, although many books on GIS also focus on a specific discipline and can therefore be found throughout the collection. A subject search for Geographic Information Systems will help locate books that are not in the 910.285 range.
