Handbook of manufacturing engineering 2nd ed. (2006) edited by Richard Crowson CRC Press / Taylor & Francis 4 vol. set |
v. 1. Product design and factory development -- v. 2. Factory operations : planning and instructional methods -- v. 3. Parts fabrication : principles and process -- v. 4. Assembly processes : finishing, packaging, and automation. Covers all aspects of manufacturing engineering, from factory development to final product assembly. The engineering approach to all factors involved in the production of goods or services. Contributions on product and factory development include discussion of product design, factory requirements, human elements in the factory, and computers and controllers. Specific aspects of factory operations are addressed, among them, cost estimating for manufacturing, computer- aided process planning, and control of production and materials. The final two sections cover parts fabrication and assembly processes, with contributions on structural mechanics, materials characteristics of metals and nonmetals, nontraditional machining methods, manual and automated assembly, and electronics assembly. |

Subject headings
For precision information retrieval, search the library catalogue using the controlled vocabulary Library of Congress Subject Headings LCSH . You can consult LCSH (the big red books) kept at the level 2 Help Desk or online direct from LC authorities . Here are a few examples of subject searches, using terms from the LCSH dictionary:

Search Applied Science Abstracts via the WilsonWeb platform Indexes high quality applied science and technology journals including leading trade and industrial publications, professional and technical society journals as well as specialised buyer's guides, directories and conference proceedings. |
| INSPEC You can perform an online "look up" of the controlled vocabulary subject terms used in INSPEC. Having selected the INSPEC database, click on the Thesaurus button in the grey top menu bar. |
Search INSPEC via the Engineering Village platform. Produced by the Institution of Electrical Engineers (U.K.). Covers primarily electrical and electronics engineering, computer science and cognate disciplines. |
| Compendex Covers all engineering disciplines. The controlled vocabulary subject (index) terms used in Compendex come from the Ei Thesaurus. 4th ed. (2001) |
Search Compendex via Engineering Village platform. Recommend you first create a personal login in order to turn search history on. |
| Freely available on the internet. |
To locate the full text of the cited document (commonly a journal article or conference paper) search the QUT Library catalogue (and perhaps other library catalogues) for the source publication. The source publication is usually either a periodical title, or a published conference proceeding.
QUT library holds / subscribes to only a selection of the source publications indexed by services such as INSPEC and Compendex.
Methods of searching for the source publication can vary. Commonly, you search by title, corporate author (useful for conferences) or keyword.
A quick, initial (but not a 100% reliable) search can be done using the international standard numbers (ISSN or ISBN). Note that library catalogues list only periodical titles, never the titles of articles. Each periodical title has a unique, eight digit identifying ISSN, which can be searched in the library catalogue.
Subscribed periodical titles are listed in our catalogue, regardless of whether they are print copies shelved on level 4 of the Gardens Point Library, or if they can be downloaded from electronic datasets over the Internet.
Note that if the source publication is an IEEE or IEE journal, transaction, magazine, conference proceeding, or a current IEEE standard you should be able to obtain the full text in electronic PDF format from IEEE Xplore.
