Locating the source document

To locate the full text of the cited document (commonly a journal article or conference paper) search the QUT Library catalogue (and perhaps other library catalogues) for the source publication. The source publication is usually either a periodical title, or a published conference proceeding.

QUT library holds / subscribes to only a selection of the source publications indexed by services such as INSPEC and Compendex.

Methods of searching for the source publication can vary. Commonly, you search by title, corporate author (useful for conferences) or keyword.

A quick, initial (but not a 100% reliable) search can be done using the international standard numbers (ISSN or ISBN). Note that library catalogues list only periodical titles, never the titles of articles. Each periodical title has a unique, eight digit identifying ISSN, which can be searched in the library catalogue.

Subscribed periodical titles are listed in our catalogue, regardless of whether they are print copies shelved on level 4 of the Gardens Point Library, or if they can be downloaded from electronic datasets over the Internet.

Note that if the source publication is an IEEE or IEE journal, transaction, magazine, conference proceeding, or a current IEEE standard you should be able to obtain the full text in electronic PDF format from IEL IEEE Xplore.
