Defining the question
Use reference books to clarify unfamiliar terms and provide an overview of the topic. In the library catalogue choose the SUBJECT option and type in these terms:

By using the catalogue
Find out which subject headings are used to describe your topic. Do this by looking in the Library of Congress Subject Headings list. Examples of useful headings for Economics topics are:

Finding periodicals
To find the call number of a periodical when you know its title, choose the TITLE option from the main menu of the catalogue.
For example: Applied Economics
To find periodical titles which the Library holds on a particular subject, choose the SUBJECT option.

The catalogue shows the call number of the periodical and the years held. In many cases a periodical is available electronically. The catalogue indicates this, and provides the link to the appropriate database.
