In this demonstration, you will learn how to find a full text article from an abstract.

The article below has been found in a QUT library database but full text is not available within this database.

Title: Let's Make Lean Work.
Author: Paris, Michael
Source: Manufacturing Engineering; Sep2007, Vol. 139 Issue 3, p145-154, 7p

To find a full text copy of this article you can:

  1. Use the QUT full text finder or
  2. Do a journal title search in the QUT library catalogue

Option 1: How to find full text using the QUT full text finder

Click the QUT full text finder button.

If the article is available online, a list of databases will appear. Select any of the listed databases and you should be taken directly to the article.

Option 2: How to find full text by doing a journal title search

Copy the journal title. In this example, the journal title is "Manufacturing Engineering".

Take note of:

  • The volume number and issue number.
    • In this example, the volume number is 139 and the issue number is 3.
  • the article title
    • In this example, the article title is "Let's make lean work".
  • the date of publication
    • In this example, the date of publication is September 2007.

Open the QUT library home page. Click Quick Catalogue Search. Click on the Journal Title tab.

Paste the journal title into the search box and click Search.

There may be more than one result. If so, click on the journal title you are looking for.

The journal "Manufacturing Engineering" is available as a print journal and an electronic journal.

To locate the print journal, click on the first record.

Note the call number and the location of the journal so that you can find a copy in the library.

To locate the electronic journal, click on the record with [electronic resource] after the title.

The article in the example was published in September 2007. These databases contain articles published from 01/06/1993 onwards.

You can find a copy of the article by searching for the article or by selecting the journal issue number and volume number that contains a copy of the article.

To open full text, find the title of the article and click the full text link.
