To find different types of articles:
1. Check the search options available in the database.

We’re in the ERIC database.

Let’s search for quantitative articles on a topic.

Tip: It’s best to start with a broad topic search.

Click the suggested subject headings to make your results more relevant.

To find quantitative articles in our list, let’s look in Search Options.

Let’s look through the options.

Bingo! Use Numerical/Quantitative Data to find quantitative articles.

There were 14 257 articles with the subject heading “student motivation”, 85 of these are quantitative articles.

To find different types of articles:
2. Do a keyword search, then link to a subject heading.

Let’s search for qualitative articles on student motivation.

Unlike the previous option for quantitative articles, there is no option for limiting to qualitative articles.

Let’s try using “qualitative” as a keyword.

Tip: keyword searching means finding the word anywhere; this could be in the article title, author name or abstract etc.

Of the 14 257 articles on student motivation, 233 records included the word “qualitative”.
