QUT Library has an agreement with the Public Library of Science (PLoS) for the central funding of PLoS publication fees of QUT researchers (as approved by the Library and the University's Research and Innovation Committee). All PLoS journals charge a fee for publication. Where the corresponding author is affiliated with Queensland University of Technology, QUT Library pays the publication fee from central funds directly to PLoS for journal articles in PLoS publications. PLoS articles are immediately freely accessible online, are deposited in the free public archive PubMed Central, and can be redistributed and reused according to the terms of the Creative Commons Attribution License. Can be accessed by current QUT staff and students, QUT alumni and the general public. This resource is freely available on and off campus. No password required.

Description:

Public Library of Science is a nonprofit organization of scientists and physicians committed to making the world's scientific and medical literature a freely available public resource. PLoS publishes peer-reviewed, open access scientific and medical journals that include original research as well as timely feature articles.

PLoS Journals

  • PLoS Biology: features works of exceptional significance in all areas of biological science, from molecules to ecosystems, including works at the interface with other disciplines, such as chemistry, medicine, and mathematics.
  • PLoS Medicine: aims to promote translation of basic research into clinical investigation, and of clinical evidence into practice.
  • PLoS Computational Biology: features works that further our understanding of living systems at all scales through the application of computational methods. It is ranked as the most highly cited journal in the Mathematical and Computational Biology category by ISI.
  • PLoS Genetics: reflects the full breadth and interdisciplinary nature of genetics and genomics research by publishing outstanding original contributions in all areas of biology - human studies as well as research on model organisms - from mice and flies, to plants and bacteria.
  • PLoS Pathogens: publishes on bacteria, fungi, parasites, prions, and viruses that contribute to our understanding of the biology of pathogens and pathogen-host interactions.
  • PLoS Neglected Tropical Diseases: launched in November 2007, it is the first open-access journal devoted to the world's most neglected tropical diseases (NTDs), such as elephantiasis, river blindness, leprosy, hookworm, schistosomiasis, and African sleeping sickness.
  • PLoS Hub for Clinical Trials:collects PLoS journal articles that relate to clinical trials. The Hub is a site for researchers to share their views and build a dynamic, interactive community.
  • PLoS ONE: features reports of primary research from all disciplines within science and medicine. Published papers are made available for community-based open peer review involving online annotation, discussion, and rating.

All PLoS journals charge a fee for publication. Where the corresponding author is affiliated with Queensland University of Technology, QUT Library pays the publication fee directly to PLoS for papers accepted in PLoS journals.

Payment procedure for QUT researchers:

  • Submit manuscript as per the usual online procedure for the selected PLoS journal.
  • Upon the article being accepted for publication by PLoS, an invoice will be sent by email from PLoS/Allen Press to the corresponding author.
  • The QUT author should forward the PLoS/Allen Press invoice to to lib.res.support@qut.edu.au
  • The invoice will be sent to Library Resource Services for payment.
